Purpose: AusGain – Lo-Stress is a highly economic top dress supplement for pre- and post- trauma hydration. Pour onto dry feed or feed free access for 3 days pre- and post transport to reduce stress and elevate water intake and body hydration.

Product Appearance: A dark brown viscous liquid will a consistency similar to that of cream. Its taste, to the human palate, is salty and slightly sour and bitter but also sweet and treacly with distinct molasses flavours.

Product Description: A palatable molasses-based Liquid Feed Supplement designed to be fed free access to cattle at pasture or poured onto feed in yards. The product incorporates a dynamic balance of nutritional components designed to reduce stress and elevate water intake and retention within the body.

Ausgain – Lo-Stress contains a blend of salts that directly effect the stress potential and hydration ability of the body. Vitamin E is also added for its effect on meat quality.

Human food grade molasses provides the main vehicle to carry nutrients into the animal and promotes regular consumption, whilst common salt and other nutritious components act to control overall intake.

Technical Note:

Mode of Action:-

Magnesium has long been recognised as an element that controls stress in ruminants. Indeed, the stress control effect of high magnesium in grass tetany supplements has a key role in their efficacy. Lo-Stress contains magnesium in a highly available form to allow rapid absorption, anterior to the small intestine.

Common salt is present at a level that encourages elevated water consumption.

Note, it is vital that a plentiful supply of clean water is available at all times and water consumption will increase up to 3 times normal levels.

Potassium ingestion and absorption increases water retention within body tissues. Lo-Stress contains 2 natural and highly available sources of potassium that will have the desired effect.

Note that urination levels will increase initially and for up to 4 hours after the last consumption.

Vitamin E has been proven to have a beneficial effect on meat quality, especially meat colour and succulence. Lo-Stress contains vitamin E at levels recommended by DSM (Roche) for meat quality improvement.

General Results:-

From technical literature (data) and commercial trials performed by AusFarm Nutrition the following observations have been noted.

Stress – animals have a distinct reduction in anxiety levels that are normally experienced during mustering, transport and layerage.

Body Weight Loss – cattle can lose in excess of 10% body weight between mustering and slaughter. The hydration ability of Lo-Stress reduces weight lose by up to 50% in most cases (indeed, weight gain has been experienced in several cases!)

Carcass Yield – comparative increases of up to 3% have been observed in cattle following long journeys to slaughter during hot weather.

Meat Quality – has been shown to significantly improve. Stress and dehydration can have a drastic effect on ‘red cutters’. Lo-Stress can help to reduce ‘red cutters’ markedly.

Marbling – is often reduced (at least, as perceived) following the stress of long periods on transport and without feed and water. Lo-Stress has been shown to significantly improve marbling scores.

Post-Hydration - Lo-Stress can also be used as a post- hydration supplement following period of transport and stresses experienced through stock movement.
